Department of Anaesthesia
Department of Anaesthesia
Welcome to the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care at Santosh Medical College Hospital. Our department is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred anaesthesia services across a wide range of surgical specialties. We are proud to have a team of experienced faculty and three full-time senior consultants in critical care, bringing a combined experience of over 39 years.
We offer a complete spectrum of anaesthesia services, including pain management and palliative care, ensuring a holistic approach to patient well-being from preoperative preparation to postoperative recovery.
Our Services
We offer a broad range of anaesthesia and perioperative care services, including:
- General Anaesthesia: We provide safe and effective general anaesthesia for a wide range of major and complex surgeries. Our team ensures thorough preoperative assessment, careful intraoperative monitoring, and smooth postoperative recovery, minimizing risks and ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure.
- Regional Anaesthesia: Our expertise in regional anaesthesia includes spinal, epidural, and ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks. These techniques are particularly beneficial for orthopaedic, obstetric, and certain general surgeries, offering superior pain relief, reduced side effects, and faster recovery times compared to general anaesthesia alone.
- Monitored Anaesthesia Care (MAC):For minimally invasive and diagnostic procedures, we offer Monitored Anaesthesia Care, which combines mild-to-deep sedation, local anaesthesia, and continuous monitoring. This approach ensures the patient remains comfortable and anxiety-free, with faster recovery and minimal postoperative complications.
- Postoperative Pain Management:A multimodal approach for pain management is practiced, which includes regional blocks, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), and targeted medication protocols to effectively manage postoperative pain. This approach ensures faster mobilization, fewer complications, and higher patient satisfaction.
- Critical Care & ICU Management: The department plays an integral role in the management of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU). Our anaesthesiologists provide advanced airway management, mechanical ventilation, and hemodynamic monitoring for patients with life-threatening conditions.
- Emergency & Trauma Anaesthesia: We provide round-the-clock anaesthesia services for emergency and trauma surgeries. Our team is trained to respond rapidly to critical situations, ensuring safe anaesthesia delivery even in unstable and high-risk patients.
- Labour Analgesia & Obstetric Anaesthesia:We offer effective pain relief during labour through epidural analgesia and provide anaesthesia support for caesarean deliveries. Our goal is to make childbirth a safe and comfortable experience for both mother and child.
- Anaesthesia for High-Risk Patients:Our consultants are experienced in managing anaesthesia for patients with significant comorbidities such as cardiac disease, respiratory disorders, and metabolic conditions. We provide meticulous preoperative evaluation and tailor anaesthesia plans to minimize risks.
Specialised Anaesthesia Services:We also provide anaesthesia support for subspecialty surgeries, including:
- Neuro-anaesthesia: For brain and spine surgeries with advanced monitoring
- Paediatric Anaesthesia: Special techniques tailored to infants and children
- Onco-Anaesthesia: For cancer surgeries requiring extended operative times
- Awake intubation using a flexible bronchoscope: For advanced airway management
